Atletico Madrid captain Gabi has admitted that Real Madrid played better as they secured 'La Decima' in Lisbon on Saturday night.
His side had looked set to lift a first Champions League crown as they led deep into second-half injury time, before Sergio Ramos levelled the game for Los Blancos.
Then goals from Gareth Bale, Marcelo and Cristiano Ronaldo in extra time gave Real a 4-1 victory, and Gabi confessed that Atleti struggled to threaten their opponents defence enough late on.
He told reporters: "In extra time we didn't have many chances and Real Madrid played better. Before the extra time Diego Simeone told us to keep working.
"We were close to getting the trophy but the title is not yours until it is all over. We fought hard but now we want to congratulate the champions."
Atleti manager Diego Simeone was sent to the stands after coming onto the pitch to confront Real defender Raphael Varane.
