Carlo Ancelotti: 'Back problem is keeping Gareth Bale out'

Real Madrid boss Carlo Ancelotti says that Gareth Bale's absence is down to a troublesome back problem.

Real Madrid boss Carlo Ancelotti has said that a back problem is the reason for Gareth Bale's absence.

The Wales international has recovered from coronavirus but was not involved against Alcoyano in the Copa del Rey on Wednesday, while he has also been left out of the squad for Saturday's clash with Valencia.

Ancelotti said last week that Bale "doesn't feel right" when questioned on his current absence.

The Los Blancos manager has now revealed that a strained back is keeping the 32-year-old on the sidelines, and it is unclear when he could be available for selection once again.

"He has a problem with his back, which is a bit strained," Ancelotti told reporters. "He is not feeling great, he cannot push 100%. And until then he can't be used."

Bale, who has not played for Real Madrid since the end of August due to injury, will be out of contract at the end of the current season, and there have been claims that the Welshman could hang up his boots.
