Atletico Madrid will welcome Real Madrid to Wanda Metropolitano on Sunday evening for the latest instalment of the Madrid derby.
The match will see Diego Simeone and Carlo Ancelotti lock horns as managers once again, with the former looking to become the first head coach to overcome Ancelotti in any competition this season.
Real Madrid have a perfect record from their eight games at the start of the 2022-23 campaign, including five victories in La Liga, while Atletico are five points behind their rivals ahead of this match.
Here, Sports Mole has a look at the head-to-head record between Simeone and Ancelotti, with two of the most famous managers in world football set to face off once again.
Simeone and Ancelotti have gone head-to-head on 17 previous occasions as managers, with the bulk of those matches taking place as head coaches of Atletico and Real Madrid respectively.
Simeone shades the overall record, winning seven, drawing four and losing just six of his 17 fixtures against Ancelotti, including their first ever clash in September 2013, with Atletico beating Real Madrid 1-0.
The biggest match up between the two managers came in the 2013-14 Champions League final, with Ancelotti getting the better of Simeone by leading Los Blancos to a 4-1 victory.
Ancelotti has also managed Bayern Munich against Simeone, with Atletico winning 1-0 in Madrid during the group stage of the 2016-17 Champions League, while Bayern won the reverse game 1-0 in Germany.
Simeone's Atletico side lost 2-0 to Ancelotti's Real Madrid at Bernabeu in La Liga last season, before the Red and Whites recorded a 1-0 victory at Wanda Metropolitano.
The Atletico boss can certainly take confidence from his managerial record against Ancelotti, although the Italian's side are on a roll this season and also enjoyed a brilliant 2021-22 campaign, winning La Liga, the Champions League and Spanish Super Cup.
Unai Emery (20) is the manager that Simeone has faced the most in his career, with Jose Luis Mendilibar (18) second, while Ancelotti is joint-third on the list alongside Ernesto Valverde.
