Real Madrid coach Carlo Ancelotti has expressed his belief that Cristiano Ronaldo has all but guaranteed himself a second successive Ballon d'Or triumph.
Ronaldo struck three times in the 5-0 demolition of Athletic Bilbao tonight to seal his third hat-trick of the season and bring his total to 39 goals for the calendar year so far.
Consequently, Ancelotti claims that the Portuguese - the current holder after a goal-laden 2013 - is certain to defend his title at the FIFA ceremony in January.
He told reporters following tonight's victory: "I think there can be no doubt about Cristiano for the Ballon d'Or this year. There's no putting money on it.
"All three of our forwards were fantastic. Cristiano and Benzema scored but [Gareth] Bale made assists and worked hard. It's essential to work together. The midfield was good too."
Striker Karim Benzema bagged the other two in the five-goal rout.
