Vinicius Junior: 'Racism is normal in La Liga'

Vinicius Junior says that "racism is normal in La Liga" after suffering racist abuse in Real Madrid's 1-0 defeat to Valencia.

Real Madrid forward Vinicius Junior has said that "racism is normal in La Liga" after he received racist abuse in the club's 1-0 away defeat to Valencia.

The contest was stopped for 10 minutes in the second half after the forward reacted to an incident in the crowd.

Vinicius, who has been the subject of racist abuse numerous times this season, attempted to bring a Valencia supporter to the referee's attention.

The Brazil international was shown a straight red card later in the contest following an altercation with Valencia forward Hugo Duro.

After the game, Vinicius posted on Twitter: "It wasn't the first time, not the second time, not the third. Racism is normal in La Liga.

"The competition is normal, the Federation also and the opponents encourage. I'm sorry. The championship that was once Ronaldinho, Ronaldo, Cristiano and Messi, today is the racists.

"A beautiful nation, which welcomed me and whom I love, but which accepted to export the image to the world of a racist country. I am sorry for the Spaniards who do not agree, but today, in Brazil, Spain is known as a country of racists.

"And unfortunately, for everything that happens each week, I have no way to defend. I agree. But I am strong and I will go all the way against the racists. Even if far from here."

Speaking prior to Vinicius's social media post, Real Madrid boss Carlo Ancelotti stated that the game should have been stopped.

"What we saw today is unacceptable. An entire stadium chanting racist slurs," Ancelotti told reporters. "I don't want to talk about football today, there is no meaning in talking about football today. I told the referee he should have stopped the match.

"La Liga has a problem. For me, Vinicius is the most important player in the world. La Liga has a problem, these episodes of racism have to stop the match.

"It's the entire stadium that is insulting a player with racist chants and the match has to stop. I would say the same if we were winning 3-0, there is no other way.

The Italian went on to add: "I asked him if he wanted to keep playing, and he stayed in the game. Vinicius is very sad, he is angry. Something like this can't happen in the world we live in."

La Liga have said that they will investigate the events at Mestalla, while Valencia released a statement to condemn the abuse and confirmed that they will hold their own investigation. body check tags ::
