Real Madrid extended their lead at the top of La Liga to six points with a 5-1 win over Real Sociedad on Saturday.

It was three for Madrid moments later, however, when Benzema chipped into the net after a searching ball from Xabi Alonso.

Sociedad secured an unlikely goal on the stroke of the interval via a strike from Xabi Prieto to leave the half-time score at 3-1.

Benzema made it four for Madrid moments into the second half when he fired a powerful effort into the corner.

It was five for Madrid after 56 minutes when Ronaldo collected a Higuain pass before finishing with ease.

Sociedad desperately lacked ideas as the half progressed, with the home side dominating the possession.

Madrid eased off in the latter stages, but were always comfortable in securing the victory.
