Real Madrid are reportedly confident of keeping hold of Toni Kroos for at least one more season.

The 34-year-old has been a vital player for Los Blancos during the 2023-24 campaign, making 38 appearances in all competitions, scoring once and registering seven assists in the process.

Kroos's existing deal at Bernabeu is due to expire at the end of June, but Real Madrid have been working on a potential new contract for the experienced midfielder.

According to Italian journalist Fabrizio Romano, "there is optimism" from the current La Liga leaders that Kroos will sign a new contract until at least the end of the 2024-25 campaign.

"Within Real Madrid, there is optimism to keep Toni Kroos, at least for one more season," Romano said on his official YouTube channel.

"Real Madrid are confident and they are only waiting for Kroos to make his final decision about his future. They believe there is a good chance to keep him for another season."

Kroos made his return to international duty on Saturday evening, playing the full 90 minutes against France, and he provided the assist for Florian Wirtz to score after seven seconds of the international friendly.

The midfielder had retired from Germany after Euro 2020, but he is now back in the fold and set to represent his country at this summer's European Championship.

"Unbelievable, to be honest," Germany boss Julian Nagelsmann told reporters after the win over France when asked about the returning Kroos. "With the ball, we all know that he is an extraordinary player. But also how he got involved in duels."

Kroos made the move to Real Madrid from Bayern Munich in 2014, and he has represented his current side on 455 occasions, scoring 28 goals and registering 96 assists in the process.

The midfielder has won three La Liga titles, one Copa del Rey, four Spanish Super Cups, four Champions League titles, three UEFA Super Cups and five Club World Cups during his time in Madrid.

There was also widespread speculation surrounding Kroos's future last year, but he ultimately decided to sign a new one-year contract with Real Madrid.

Last month, Los Blancos head coach Carlo Ancelotti said that the midfielder's future was 'up to him', suggesting that a new offer was on the table.

Luka Modric also only has a deal at Real Madrid until this summer, but the Croatian is expected to move on in search of pastures new, having lost his spot as a first-team regular in 2023-24. body check tags ::
