Real Madrid boss Zinedine Zidane has admitted that he is unsure whether James Rodriguez will stay with the club beyond the end of this summer's transfer window.
James has spent each of the last two seasons on loan at Bayern Munich, but the Bundesliga champions turned down the opportunity to sign the Colombia international on a permanent deal.
Napoli and Atletico Madrid have both been linked with swoops for the playmaker, who was thought to be surplus to requirements at the Bernabeu.
However, Marco Asensio's recent knee injury is said to have opened the door for the 28-year-old to stay with Los Blancos heading into the 2019-20 campaign.
Zidane, though, has offered no guarantees when it comes to the South American's future.
"I don't know if James is going to be at Real Madrid next season," Zidane told reporters. "I'm not involved in that. I'm here thinking about [the Audi Cup]."
Madrid, who lost 1-0 to Tottenham Hotspur in the semi-finals of the Audi Cup on Tuesday, will start their 2019-20 La Liga campaign away to Celta Vigo on August 17.
