Sports Mole previews Thursday's La Liga clash between Real Sociedad and Cadiz, including predictions, team news and possible lineups.
Sports Mole

Cadiz will be looking to further boost their La Liga survival hopes when they travel to sixth-placed Real Sociedad on Thursday night.

The away side are currently 16th in the table, three points ahead of 18th-placed Mallorca, while Real Sociedad are three points ahead of seventh-placed Villarreal and two behind Real Betis in fifth.

Match preview

Real Sociedad have picked up 56 points from their 35 La Liga matches this season, which has left them in sixth position in the table, two points behind fifth-placed Real Betis and three ahead of seventh-placed Villarreal with three games left.

The Basque outfit are in pole position to claim a Europa League spot for next term, but their recent struggles have seen them fall away when it comes to a possible Champions League finish.

Indeed, Imanol Alguacil's side have not been victorious in Spain's top flight since April 10, picking up just two points from their last four league games against Real Betis, Barcelona, Rayo Vallecano and Levante.

Last time out, the White and Blues suffered a 2-1 defeat to Levante, with Gonzalo Melero netting the winner from the penalty spot in the final exchanges, while they lost 1-0 to Barcelona in their last match in front of their own supporters on April 21.

Real Sociedad have won nine, drawn five and lost three of their 17 home league matches this season, but they will be welcoming a Cadiz outfit that have been solid on their travels, picking up points in 10 of their 17 matches away from their own supporters this term.

Cadiz, meanwhile, will enter the contest off the back of a 3-0 win over Elche on May 7, with Alvaro Negredo, Ruben Sobrino and Anthony Lozano all registering in the final 10 minutes.

The Yellow Submarine have now picked up seven points from their last four league matches, which has moved them up into 16th position in the table, three points clear of 18th-placed Mallorca.

Cadiz have a tough end to the campaign, facing Real Sociedad and Real Madrid in their next two before travelling to Alaves on May 22, and their recent form has put them in a strong position to avoid relegation.

The Pirates are bidding to make it back-to-back seasons at this level of football for the first time since 1993, and as mentioned, they have been solid on their travels this term, picking up 18 points from 17 matches.

Sergio Gonzalez's side actually have the worst home record in La Liga this term, collecting 17 points from 18 games, and the fact that two of their final three league matches of the season are away from home could actually help them, as they bid to avoid relegation to the second tier.

Team News

Real Sociedad will again be missing Mikel Oyarzabal, Nacho Monreal, Carlos Fernandez and Ander Barrenetxea through injury, while Robin Le Normand and Alexander Isak are out of the contest through suspension.

As a result, there will have to be at least two changes to the side that started against Levante last time out, with Portu and Aritz Elustondo potentially replacing the two suspended players.

Head coach Alguacil is likely to resist the temptation to make wholesale alterations, though, so Asier Illarramendi and Adnan Januzaj might have to accept spots on the bench once again, with Mikel Merino, Rafinha and David Silva set to feature in midfield.

As for Cadiz, Varazdat Haroyan and Fali Jimenez will miss the game through injury, and the latter's absence could open the door for Juan Cala to feature at the back.

Head coach Sergio will have been delighted with what he saw from his team last time out, so there are not expected to be many changes, and Lucas Perez and Negredo could start as the front two once again despite both Sobrino and Lozano netting off the bench.

Jose Mari and Alex Fernandez are likely to retain their spots in midfield, meanwhile, with Oussama Idrissi operating in a wide position for the Yellow Submarine.

Real Sociedad possible starting lineup:
Remiro; Gorosabel, Zubeldia, Elustondo, Rico; Merino, Zubimendi, Rafinha; D Silva; Sorloth, Portu

Cadiz possible starting lineup:
Ledesma; Akapo, Hernandez, Cala, Espino; Alejo, Mari, Alex, Idrissi; Perez, Negredo

We say: Real Sociedad 1-1 Cadiz

Real Sociedad's recent form has been disappointing, which will hand Cadiz a lot of confidence ahead of the match. The home team are certainly the favourites, but Cadiz have impressed on their travels this term and should have enough quality to claim a point on Thursday night.
