New York Red Bulls general manager Marc de Grandpre has paid tribute to Thierry Henry after the Frenchman announced that he had played his final game for the MLS club.
Henry's decision to depart arrived following his team's 4-3 aggregate defeat to New England Revolution in the Eastern Conference Championship playoff on Saturday.
Henry leaves having scored 52 goals in 133 games for the club.
"On behalf of the New York Red Bulls I would like to thank Thierry Henry for the incredible impact he has made on both our organisation and the American soccer community as a whole," De Grandpre said in a statement.
"He is truly one of the all-time great talents and will forever hold a special place within the organisation's history. We wish Thierry all the best for his future."
Henry joined New York from Barcelona in 2010.
