A late header from former Everton star Tim Cahill was enough to give New York Red Bulls a 1-0 victory at Columbus Crew in Major League Soccer today.
The hosts dominated the attacking possession in the first period, but struggled to get any of their shots on target.
They had a great chance to take the lead in the second half when Eddie Gaven was brought down by Brandon Barklage in the box, but Red Bulls goalkeeper Luis Robles was equal to Federico Higuaín's penalty kick.
The New Yorkers punished their opponents for their wastefulness in the 80th minute when Cahill got his head to a cross in the centre of the box and beat Andy Gruenebaum between the Columbus sticks.
