Darron Gibson may have suffered knee ligament damage after the Everton midfielder was substituted during the Republic of Ireland's clash with Kazakhstan this evening.
Gibson had been offered the opportunity to represent his country under interim boss Noel King after Gibson had previously ruled himself out of playing under previous boss Giovanni Trapattoni.
Gibson went down in the 35th minute of the game and was treated on the pitch for several minutes before being stretchered off.
Shortly after the incident the FAI tweeted: "Darron Gibson has been assessed by our team doc and will return to his club for a scan with suspected knee ligament damage."
Gibson has only recently returned from injury and Everton will hope that the midfielder doesn't face too long on the sidelines as the club aims to continue its good start to the Premier League season.
