Roma claimed a 5-1 win over CSKA Moscow in their Champions League Group E opener.

Juan Iturbe opened the scoring, before two goals from Gervinho and a strike from Maicon gave the hosts a four-goal lead at half time.

An own goal from Sergei Ignashevich after the break gave Roma their fifth of the night, before Ahmed Musa pulled one back for the visitors late on.

Here, Sports Mole takes a look at who impressed during an entertaining 90 minutes.

ROMA

Goal

Morgan De Sanctis: Made a crucial save early on to deny Doumbia. Had more work to do after the break and will have been disappointed not to have kept a clean sheet. (7/10)

Defence

Maicon: Outstanding showing from the Brazilian. Looked back to his best with a number of powerful runs down the right wing and capped his performance with a goal. (8/10)

Davide Astori: Had little to do in the first half with his team seeing all of the possession further up the pitch. Solid in the air and looked comfortable at this level. (7/10)

Kostas Monalos: Along with his centre-back partner Astori, he enjoyed a relatively comfortable evening. Looked strong in the challenge and used the ball well. (7/10)

Vasileios Torosidis: Not as threatening as Maicon on the right wing, but still an important outlet for Roma on his flank. It was his dangerous cross that led to Ignashevich scoring an own goal. (7/10)

Midfield

Radja Nainggolan: Looked confident in possession and tried to get forward at every opportunity. Rarely gave the ball away and kept his team ticking over in the midfield. (7/10)

Miraelem Pjanic: Another fine display from the Bosnian. Was all over the pitch and helped to build his team's attacks. (7/10)

Seydou Ketia: Solid performance in the heart of the midfield. Distributed the ball well all evening and ensured that CSKA found it tough to gain any possession. (7/10)

Attack

Francesco Totti: Dependable as ever from the Roma captain. Many of his side's best moves went through him and it was his neat pass into Gervinho that led to the third goal. (7/10)

Gervinho: Outstanding performance from the Ivorian. Took both of his goals well and played a wonderful ball through to Iturbe for the first of the evening. The visiting defence were unable to handle him all night. (9/10)

Juan Iturbe: Was only on the pitch for 26 minutes, but the damage had already been done. He opened the scoring with a fine goal early on and supplied the assists for Gervinho and Maicon's goals before he departed. (8/10)

Substitutes

Alessandro Florenzi: Replaced the injured Iturbe in the first half and fitted effortlessly into the team. Showed his class and very nearly scored with an effort that forced the keeper into a decent save. (7/10)

Adem Lajic: Came on for Gervinho in the closing stages and did not have too many chances to make an impact. (6/10)

Mapou Yanga-Mbiwa: Was brought on for Manolas late on with the game already won, but will have been disappointed that CSKA scored soon after his introduction. (6/10)

CSKA MOSCOW

Goal

Igor Akinfeev: Made a huge mistake by allowing Maicon to score Roma's third of the match and was not helped by the poor display from his defenders. (5/10)

Defence

Kirill Nababkin: Endured a torrid evening at left-back and struggled to deal with the constant runs of Maicon. Was taken off at half time. (5/10)

Sergey Ignashevich: Could not handle the pace of Roma's forward duo Iturbe and Gervinho and was caught out for the first goal. Capped a miserable night by scoring an own goal in the second half. (5/10)

Vasily Berezutskiy: Had a poor night at the back along with his defensive partner Ignashevich and was beaten for pace too often. (5/10)

Mario Fernandes: Not troubled as much as Nababkin, with most of Roma's attacks going down the right-hand side. Tried to get forward in support of his midfielders, but was forced back for most of the game. (6/10)

Midfield

Zoran Tosic: Failed to have any real impact on the game was forced off injured shortly after half time. (6/10)

Ahmed Musa: Was the best player of the evening for the visitors. Took his goal well and constantly threatened down the left wing. (7/10)

Georgi Milanov: Did not see too much of the ball, but hit the bar with a stunning strike late on that looked as if it had bounced over the line. (6/10)

Roman Eremenko: Had a few attempts on goal as his team improved in the second half. Showed some neat touches on the ball, but couldn't have too much influence on the outcome. (6/10)

Bebars Natcho: Was overrun in the midfield and gave the ball away far too often. Did not get forward enough as he would have liked. (5/10)

Attack

Seydou Doumbia: Missed a big chance to put his team into the lead in the first half. He was played through on goal, but stumbled at the vital moment allowing De Sanctis to make an easy save. (6/10)

Substitutes

Dmitri Efremov: Came on for Tosic and had some decent attempts on goal for his side. (6/10)

Kirill Panchenko: Arrived soon after the hour-mark and came close to scoring in the final minutes with a shot that went just wide. (6/10)

Georgy Shchennikov: Was introduced at half time for Nababkin and helped to shore up his team's shaky defence. (6/10)
