Roma scored two late goals against Hellas Verona this evening to go top of Serie A with a 2-0 win.
Alessandro Florenzi netted with 15 minutes remaining, but it was Mattia Destro's strike that will live long in the memory after he hit a dipping half-volley from around 45 yards out.
Roma created a great chance after 13 minutes when Francesco Totti found Destro and the latter's pass was met by Maicon, but the Brazilian could only fire over the bar.
Totti then thought he had given his side the lead just after the half-hour mark but his sliding effort could only bounce back off the post.
Totti then went close almost immediately after the restart, but his powerful effort was well saved by Pierluigi Gollini.
Florenzi struck when he fired one in from 25 yards to make the breakthrough on 75 minutes, and Gervinho almost made it 2-0 late on when he hit the woodwork.
However, Destro did extend the advantage with four minutes of normal time remaining with a superb effort that looped over Gollini from just outside the centre circle.
