San Jose Eathquakes have missed the chance to go top of the MLS Western Conference after falling to a 2-1 defeat at Sporting Kansas City.
C.J. Sapong put the hosts into the lead after five minutes after getting on the end of Kei Kamara's cross to strike home past Jon Busch.
Kamara then made it 2-0 with a header in the 39th minute to give Kansas a commanding half-time lead.
Simon Dawkins restored hope for San Jose after with around 20 minutes remaining, but they were unable to find an equaliser.
Kansas, whose victory sees them close the gap on second-placed New York Red Bulls in the Eastern Conference, had plenty of attempts at goal during the match and ran out worthy winners.
