Sheffield Wednesday manager Carlos Carvalhal has praised the way that his side executed his gameplan in the 1-0 League Cup third-round win over Newcastle United at St James' Park.
Lewis McGugan drilled in a late winner as Carvalhal's second-string Owls team knocked the ailing Magpies out of the competition on Wednesday night.
The Championship side's boss congratulated his players on the victory and the manner in which they stuck to the gameplan throughout the match.
"It was perfect because we came here with a plan and left with a win," he told the club website. "We had a strategy, we knew what we wanted to do and I have to congratulate the players because they did exactly what they were asked to do.
"We played with pace at the top and I was very pleased because the game came out how we thought it would. Newcastle had more of the ball but we expected that and it was not a problem to us.
"We played a patient game and I thought that we struck at the right moment. We should have scored again very soon after but I am happy with 1-0 at the fantastic home of a Premier League club."
The victory saw Wednesday progress to round four where they will again meet Premier League opposition, this time hosting Arsenal at Hillsborough.
