Preview: Sheffield Wednesday vs. Accrington Stanley - prediction, team news, lineups

:Headline: Preview: Sheffield Wednesday vs. Accrington Stanley - prediction, team news, lineups:
Sports Mole previews Tuesday's League One clash between Sheffield Wednesday and Accrington Stanley, including predictions, team news and possible lineups.
Sports Mole

Sheffield Wednesday will be looking to continue their impressive run of form in League One when they welcome Accrington Stanley to Hillsborough on Tuesday night.

The Owls will enter the contest off the back of a 6-0 win over Cambridge United on Saturday, while Accrington recorded a 2-1 victory over Charlton Athletic on the same afternoon.

Match preview

Sheffield Wednesday were at their best against Cambridge on Saturday, putting six unanswered goals past their opponents to secure all three points in impressive fashion, with Saido Berahino netting three times.

Darren Moore's side have now won four of their last five league matches, which has left them in seventh position in the table, boasting 64 points from their 36 matches.

The Owls are only one point behind sixth-placed Plymouth Argyle and just four behind fourth-placed Oxford United, so they are in a strong position to challenge for a return to the Championship next season.

Moore's team, who finished bottom of the Championship last season, have impressed in front of their own supporters this term, picking up 40 points from 18 matches, which is the second-best home record in the entire division behind Sunderland (41).

Sheffield Wednesday recorded a 3-2 victory when they travelled to Accrington for the reverse match earlier this season, with the Owls netting three times in the first 22 minutes of the contest.

Accrington, meanwhile, will enter this match off the back of a 2-1 win over Charlton on Saturday, with Tommy Leigh's 32nd-minute effort proving to be the difference between the two sides.

John Coleman's side have actually won two of their last three in the league, which has left them in 12th position in the table on 49 points, some 16 points off sixth-placed Plymouth.

Accrington finished 11th in League One last season, and it would not be a surprise to see them in a similar spot come the end of this campaign, which would have to be considered a success.

Stanley have won four and lost four of their last eight league matches, which is an indication of their inconsistency, while they have not drawn a league game since the end of January, so it is difficult to know what side will turn up at Hillsborough on Tuesday night.

Coleman's team have struggled on their travels this term, though, picking up just 12 points from 17 matches, which is the fourth-worst away record in England's third tier.

Team News

Sheffield Wednesday are expected to be without the services of Sam Hutchinson following his withdrawal against Cambridge on Saturday, so Dominic Iorfa is in line to start at the back.

The Owls did not pick up any other issues last time out, though, and it is likely to be close to the same side that took to the field for the first whistle against Cambridge.

Berahino scored a brilliant treble on Saturday and will again feature in the final third of the field, while Lee Gregory should keep his spot in attack despite pressure from Florian Kamberi.

As for Accrington, two of their midfielders from Saturday's clash with Charlton will be unavailable; Leigh is suspended following his red card, while Liam Coyle will miss out through injury.

As a result, there are likely to be spots in central midfield for Ethan Hamilton and Marcel Lewis, but it will otherwise be close to the same side that started against Charlton.

Colby Bishop is Accrington's leading goalscorer in League One this season with eight, and the 31-year-old will again feature in the final third of the field for the visitors.

Sheffield Wednesday possible starting lineup:
Peacock-Farrell; Storey, Iorfa, Gibson; Hunt, Byers, Luongo, Bannan, Johnson; Berahino, Gregory

Accrington Stanley possible starting lineup:
Savin; Sykes, Nottingham, Rodgers; Longelo-Mbule, Pell, Hamilton, Lewis, McConville; Bishop, Adedoyin

We say: Sheffield Wednesday 2-0 Accrington Stanley

Sheffield Wednesday were excellent against Cambridge on Saturday so will enter Tuesday's contest full of confidence. Accrington have won two of their last three in the league during a strong run, but we are finding it incredibly difficult to predict anything other than a home victory here.
