Southampton won the battle of the top two in the Championship this evening, seeing off West Ham 1-0 at St Mary's to maintain their 100% home record.
The only goal of the game was scored by defender Jos Hooiveld on the stroke of half-time, the Dutchman rising highest to head home Danny Fox's corner.
The visiting Hammers piled on the pressure in the second half but were unable to breach Kelvin Davis's goal.
Southampton extend their lead at the Championship summit to five points from West Ham, who remain second.
