Southampton manager Ronald Koeman claims that he needs two more players to make his team a "perfect squad".

Southampton manager Ronald Koeman has praised his side for their 3-0 win over Vitesse in their Europa League third qualifying round first leg, while also hinting that he needs two more players to make it a "perfect squad".

Graziano Pelle opened the scoring in Thursday's game at St Mary's with a right-footed shot before Dusan Tadic converted a penalty to double the lead on the stroke of half time.

Substitutes Shane Long and Juanmi then combined late on as the former headed home to gift the Saints their first European win since 1981.

Koeman told BBC Sport: "There is a big difference between 2-0 up and 3-0 up and tonight is a great result in European football. We did a good job today and that makes things a little easier in the next game.

"We try to have a good squad in terms of quality as well as numbers. Ideally we would have two more players to have a perfect squad for this season.

"Expectation will be big for us, but we are realistic people at the club and it will be difficult for us to match what we did last season, But we believe we can and we have the players to do that."

The second leg of the tie will be played in Arnhem on August 6, with the winner making it to the playoff round.
