Tranmere set up an FA Cup third-round clash against Premier League Tottenham as Connor Jennings' superb first-half double handed them a 2-0 victory in a replay against non-league Southport.
Two stunning volleys from Jennings ensured that the League Two club will host Mauricio Pochettino's men at Prenton Park next month, although they did not have it all their own way in the second half.
In front of a sell-out crowd at Haig Avenue, Jennings gave the visitors the lead in the 14th minute when he hit a sublime 30-yard volley that dipped beyond the helpless Dan Hanford.
The former Wrexham captain then doubled Tranmere's advantage two minutes before the break when he showed fine technique to volley home Jake Caprice's cross.
The Sandgrounders rallied after the break with Liam Edwards shooting just wide before Dion Charles twice pulled fingertip saves out of Scott Davies.
But the Wirral side were able to weather the home assault, with captain Steve McNulty a rock in defence.
