Borussia Dortmund have been charged by UEFA after 17 Tottenham Hotspur supporters were injured prior to last week's Europa League tie.
The fans were left hurt following a crush as they struggled to enter the German outfit's Westfalenstadion home.
It has now been confirmed that governing body UEFA has opened disciplinary proceedings against Dortmund over blocked stairways at the ground - a breach of Article 38 of the safety regulations.
A date of May 19 has been set for the case to be heard, but a Spurs spokesman has claimed that further action should be taken after suggestions that unruly action was taken by the police.
"The misdirection of our fans by police along with the closing of turnstiles created a potentially dangerous situation," The Guardian quotes a Tottenham insider as saying. "The use of pepper sprays was completely unnecessary and unacceptable."
A weakened Spurs side lost the game 3-0 to leave them with a huge task on their hands in Thursday's return leg.
