Tottenham Hotspur close the gap on the top four in the Premier League table with a 5-0 victory over Swansea City at White Hart Lane.

Tottenham Hotspur have recorded a 5-0 victory over Swansea City to close the gap on the top four in the Premier League table.

Harry Kane and Christian Eriksen netted two goals apiece while Son Heung-min chipped in with a stunning volley as Mauricio Pochettino's side closed the gap on Manchester City, who lost against Chelsea earlier on Saturday.

The opening 15 minutes in North London featured little in the way of goalscoring opportunities, but Swansea were lucky not to have a man sent off after Neil Taylor kicked Kyle Walker in the face when competing for the ball on the touchline.

However, the failure to send off the Welshman did not hinder Spurs as they dominated the first half with Kane first going close with a glancing header from Walker's near-post cross.

Victor Wanyama curled too close to Lukas Fabianski as the game reached the half-hour mark, before Son fired over from distance after being teed up by Kane.

Eriksen also sent a free kick too close to the Swansea stopper but with six minutes to go until the break, Spurs were fortunate to win a penalty after Kyle Naughton was adjudged to have fouled Dele Alli, despite seeming to move his feet away from challenging the midfielder who threw himself to the ground.

Kane dispatched the resulting penalty by sending Fabianski the wrong way, and the home side were soon two goals to the good as Son sent a well-struck volley into the corner after the ball had fallen invitingly for him inside the area.

Swansea needed to throw more men forward after the break but within five minutes of the restart, they were 3-0 down as good work from Son gave Kane the chance to sweep home from 12 yards as he netted his second goal of the game.

Eriksen fired wide as Spurs pushed forward but the introduction of Borja Baston suggested that Bob Bradley still had hopes of an unlikely comeback for his team.

However, it did not take long for Spurs to net a fourth through Eriksen, who was in the right place at the right time to head home from inside the six-yard box after Alli's shot had been saved by Fabianski.

The home side were not satisfied with just the four and proceeded to remain on the attack with Walker forcing another intervention out of Fabianski, who did not deserve to be on the receiving end of such a lopsided scoreline.

It got worse for Swansea and Fabianski in the closing seconds as Eriksen finished calmly inside the penalty area, and Bradley will now face more questions about his future after his team capitulated in the final 50 minutes.
