Bryan Gil has been named in the starting lineup for Tottenham Hotspur's Premier League showdown with Aston Villa, but there is no place in the squad for Dejan Kulusevski.

The Spanish youngster is one of four changes made by Antonio Conte, who also recalls Hugo Lloris, Ben Davies and Cristian Romero to the first XI at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.

Kulusevski has not made the bench for the Lilywhites either, with the Swedish attacker understood to be nursing a minor muscular injury, as Gil joins Harry Kane and Son Heung-min up front.

However, World Cup winner Romero has been passed fit to make his first start since helping Argentina to glory in Qatar, as Conte elects to drop Eric Dier down to the bench.

Clement Lenglet is the only member of the backline from the Boxing Day draw with Brentford to keep his place, as Japhet Tanganga unsurprisingly drops out for the fit-again Davies.

Lloris also demotes number two goalkeeper Fraser Forster back down to the bench, but he will not be coming up against Emiliano Martinez, who has only made the bench for the visitors.

Robin Olsen continues in goal for the Lions, and Villa boss Unai Emery names the same starting lineup from their defeat to Liverpool on Boxing Day.

Tottenham starting lineup: Lloris; Romero, Lenglet, Davies; Doherty, Hojbjerg, Bissouma, Perisic; Gil, Kane, Son

Subs: Forster, Dier, Tanganga, Sanchez, Emerson, Spence, Sessegnon, Sarr, Skipp

Aston Villa starting lineup: Olsen; Young, Konsa, Mings, Digne; McGinn, Kamara, Luiz; Buendia, Watkins, Bailey

Subs: Martinez, Cash, Chambers, Bednarek, Augustinsson, Sanson, Coutinho, Archer, Ings body check tags ::
