Agent Claudio Vigorelli has claimed that Tottenham Hotspur registered 'a serious interest' in Roma midfielder Nicolo Zaniolo during the summer transfer window.
Having established himself in the first team at Stadio Olimpico, Zaniolo was heavily linked with a switch to the Premier League before the start of the new campaign.
While the 20-year-old eventually remained at the Serie A side, it has been suggested that Spurs made a sustained effort to sign the Italy international.
Vigorelli told the Daily Mail: "He renewed with Roma and is fine at Roma but obviously we enjoyed the great interest of Tottenham, who were the runners-up in the Champions League.
"Their concrete interest in him shows how good the boy's season was. Spurs thought a lot about Nicolo before taking [Giovani] Lo Celso, they focused their attention on him seriously, more than any other club even beyond the Premier League."
Zaniolo now holds a contract at Roma until the end of the 2023-24 season.
