Stoke City have reached the knockout stages of the Europa League with a 1-1 draw at home to Dynamo Kiev.
The visitors controlled much of the first half as Olexandr Aliyev saw one shot saved and another flash wide in the opening 10 minutes.
The superior Ukrainians made the breakthrough on 26 minutes when Aliyev's shot was deflected in off Matthew Upson's outstretched leg.
Former Chelsea striker Andrey Shevchenko almost doubled Kiev's lead before the break, but his left-footed effort clipped the outside of the post from a tight angle.
The Potters came out energised after the interval as Wilson Palacios had an early chance saved. The Honduran could have expected to get a cleaner strike on goal were it not for a poor first touch.
Stoke almost got themsleves level on 55 minutes when Jermaine Pennant's drive was cleared off the line.
Kenwyne Jones saw a tame header easily saved before he found the net on 80 minutes when he nodded in Pennant's cross.
The equaliser managed to calm City nerves and they were able to hold off their opponents for the final ten minutes and secure the vital point needed to progress.
