Stoke City have been knocked out of the Europa League after a 2-0 aggregate defeat to Valencia.
A 1-0 victory on the night at the Mestalla Stadium was enough to see the Spanish side through to the next round.
The hosts could have taken the lead in just the second minute, but Daniel Parejo's free kick crashed back off the crossbar.
Despite the early scare, Stoke soon got into the match and should have taken the lead when Kenwyne Jones had a header from six yards out. However, the striker failed to make a decent connection with the ball.
The Potters were made to pay as Jonas slotted in from close range following a Valencia counter attack on 24 minutes.
Wilson Palacios nearly nicked an equaliser for Stoke in the second half, but his effort was poked narrowly wide.
Parejo came close again with a free kick soon after, but his effort was tipped over by Thomas Sorensen.
The Dane came to his side's rescue again when he saved substitute Roberto Soldado's shot with his feet after Jonathan Woodgate had carelessly given the ball away.
Stoke continued to toil as Jones put another header wide in the final minutes, but they were frustrated by their opponents who held on for the win.
