Stoke City manager Mark Hughes has revealed that he has spoken to his squad about the competition for places at the Britannia Stadium.

Hughes has made a number of high-profile signings during the summer, including breaking the club's transfer record to secure the signature of Xherdan Shaqiri from Inter Milan.

However, the Welsh boss has admitted that strength in numbers brings its disadvantages, something which he has alluded to with his players.

The 51-year-old is quoted by BBC Sport as saying: "I have been speaking to the guys and I have told them that when we have a relatively fully-fit squad of players, like we do now, then it is always going to be difficult to keep everybody happy.

"I think everybody is really enthused by what may be ahead in terms of selection and the team we can put out."

Stoke play Norwich City at Carrow Road on Saturday afternoon as they look to register their first Premier League win of the season.
