Stoke City boss Mark Hughes has insisted that Ryan Shawcross deserves plenty of recognition for his impressive performances this season, particularly from England coach Roy Hodgson.
The 26-year-old was in fine form again on Saturday, helping the Potters to a 1-0 win over title contenders Arsenal at the Britannia Stadium.
Hughes hopes that his captain's profile will rise after Stoke's wins over the bigger sides, allowing him the chance to earn a call-up for England.
"I think he's been playing well for a number of months now," Hughes told reporters.
"Obviously when you go up against the top teams the profile of the game is raised, so hopefully that will raise Ryan up in to the attention of the powers that be because he deserves recognition for how he's played this year."
Shawcross has earned one cap for England so far in his career.
