Jonathan Walters has revealed his intention to fight for his place at Stoke City as he looks to reclaim a regular spot in the side.

The Republic of Ireland international recently broke back into the team after being used from the bench by Mark Hughes in the early stages of the season.

However, he has hinted that a move away from the Britannia Stadium is a possibility if he finds himself out of the side for an extended period.

"All I can do is stake my claim and hopefully put my name forward to start," Walters told reporters. "There have been a lot of players that come and go. It's no different from any other year and I'm sure it will be no different come January or the summer.

"It's no good playing bits here and there and I'd love more game time. Hopefully that will come. We'll see over the next few weeks and months."

Stoke host Southampton in the League Cup on Wednesday night.
