Charlie Adam scored the only goal of the game as Stoke City saw off the challenge of Queens Park Rangers at the Britannia Stadium this afternoon.
QPR started the brighter of the two but were unable to test Asmir Begovic in the Potters goal early on.
Stoke came close to taking the lead 10 minutes before the break when Steven N'Zonzi stormed down the right-hand side and picked out Peter Crouch in the middle, but the England striker saw his effort deflected just wide.
QPR could have nicked the lead just before the interval but Adel Taarabt wasted a counter-attack by attempting a chip that didn't come off.
The home side got the goal seven minutes into the second half when Peter Crouch was unable to acrobatically turn home Jonathan Walters's delivery, but Adam was on hand to smash home at the far post.
QPR troubled Begovic on a couple of occasions, most notably when Esteban Granero forced the Bosnian stopper into a save, but the home side were able to see out the three points fairly comfortably.
