Stuttgart have climbed out of the Bundesliga relegation zone after a 2-0 win over SV Darmstadt 98 in Sunday's clash at the Mercedes-Benz Arena.
The hosts dominated their opponents in the first half as Daniel Didavi, Serey Die, Florian Klein and Emiliano Insua all had chances to put their side ahead, but Darmstadt hung on to keep the game scoreless by the break.
Timo Werner headed against the post in the 67th minute, and just moments later Stuttgart broke the deadlock when Gyorgy Garics sent the ball beyond his keeper's reach with a poor header into his own net.
The visitors could not keep up with the Reds, who had yet more chances to add to their tally, and in the fourth minute of injury time Werner weaved through the defence inside the box and slotted the ball into the back of the net.
The result sees Stuttgart climb to 14th in the Bundesliga table, two points clear of the drop zone, while Darmstadt remain in 12th place.
