Stephane Sessegnon has scored on his debut to give West Bromwich Albion a 1-0 lead over Sunderland midway through the Premier League clash.
Neither side were able to settle down early on, with clear goalscoring opportunities proving very hard to come by for the teams struggling at the bottom of the table.
However, it was the hosts who made the breakthrough in the 20th minute when Sessegnon, who joined West Brom from Sunderland on transfer deadline day, took advantage of a loose ball to drill home his first goal for his new club.
Adam Johnson was inches away from equalising for the visitors before the break, but his curled effort was deflected wide just before it could find the bottom corner of the net.
