Jose Mourinho: We failed to "kill" Sunderland

Chelsea manager Jose Mourinho states his annoyance with his side's failure to "kill" Sunderland in their League Cup defeat.

Chelsea manager Jose Mourinho has lamented his side's lack of killer instinct after they were knocked out the League Cup by Sunderland.

The Black Cats beat the Blues 2-1 after extra time to go through to the semi-final, and Mourinho said that his side should have wrapped the game long before the final whistle.

"My team played very well, we have the quality in possession and the football was amazing, and it is the same story, the story repeats," Mourinho told Sky Sports News.

"It is the same story as [defeats against] Stoke City, Everton, and every match that we have lost. It is not because our opponent has been stronger than us. We have lost the match because we don't kill opponents, we let them live and they can score and change the game.

"It does not reflect the truth of the match and I answer the question every week [about my 2004 team]. Please don't make me answer that question again. I'm the manager of this team, not the 2004, '05, '06, '07 or '08 team."

Elsewhere in the competition, Leicester were beaten 3-1 by Manchester City.
