Sunderland defender Billy Jones has revealed that he was delighted to play a crucial part in securing his side's first win of the campaign against bitter rivals Newcastle United.
The 28-year-old netted his first goal for the Black Cats when he got on the scoresheet in the second half, which handed his side a 2-0 lead after Adam Johnson had put Sam Allardyce's men ahead from the penalty spot.
Steven Fletcher sealed the three points with a late strike to move Sunderland off the bottom of the Premier League at the expense of their rivals, and now Jones is eyeing further victories to ease their relegation worries.
He told the club's official website: "It is great to get that first win. The atmosphere was there throughout the 90 minutes and when the goals go in you can't even hear yourself think because it's that loud.
"I mentioned last year that it was the best atmosphere I've played in and it was the same again today, so I'm happy for the fans and happy for the group but now we need to look forward and get some more wins."
Sunderland are next in action against Everton on Sunday.
