Jermain Defoe has admitted that Sunderland's relegation scrap had left him and his teammates feeling scared.
The Black Cats produced a determined display to hold Arsenal to a goalless draw at the Emirates Stadium this evening, which takes them four points above the relegation zone and therefore clear of danger.
Having seen his side's goal come under siege throughout, Defoe's relief was clear to see at full time.
"When that final whistle went you can imagine the feeling," he told Sky Sports News. "The relegation battle has been scary."
Sunderland face champions Chelsea on the final day of the season next Sunday.
