Jeremain Lens has claimed that Dick Advocaat played a key role in convincing him to make the move to Sunderland this summer.
The 27-year-old has impressed with his performances in pre-season since joining from Dynamo Kiev for £8.5m, and he admits that working with Advocaat was too good an opportunity to turn down after playing under the Dutchman at AZ Alkmaar and PSV Eindhoven.
"I know when he came to Sunderland it was only for a few games last season so I didn't know he would sign for one more year," Lens told reporters.
"But when he did decide to sign for one more year I spoke with him and I had a good feeling with him about Sunderland and that's where the process started for the transfer.
"He knows what my qualities are and I know what he expects from me. Everything is clear."
Lens is expected to make his debut in Saturday's meeting with Leicester City at the King Power Stadium.
