Sunderland have confirmed that Gus Poyet has been appointed as their new head coach.
Poyet, who has signed a two-year deal at the Stadium of Light, will replace Paolo Di Canio after the Italian was sacked last month.
Kevin Ball had been placed in temporary charge of the North-East outfit, but the club have opted to move for the former Brighton & Hove Albion manager.
Poyet will be assisted by Mauricio Taricco and Charlie Oatway, who were part of the 45-year-old's backroom staff at the Championship club.
The former Chelsea midfielder's first match in charge of Sunderland will be away to Swansea City on October 19.
