Sunderland are reportedly preparing to offer manager Gus Poyet a new contract at the Stadium of Light amid reports that Southampton could be interested in the Uruguayan.
The former Brighton & Hove Albion boss, who has one year remaining on the contract that he penned in October last year, managed to keep the Black Cats in the Premier League last season.
According to the Northern Echo, Poyet has been touted as a potential candidate to replace Mauricio Pochettino, but Sunderland hope to keep Poyet at the North-East outfit by offering the coach a new deal.
Poyet replaced Paolo Di Canio during the 2013-14 campaign.
