Sunderland have announced that captain Lee Cattermole has committed to a fresh four-year contract at the club.
The 24-year-old, who has so far picked up seven red cards in his career, will remain at the Stadium of Light until 2016.
Cattermole, who began his career at Middlesbrough, was officially named permanent captain of the North East club during the 2010-11 campaign on Wearside.
The midfielder has racked up 80 appearances for the Black Cats since joining in 2009 from Wigan Athletic.
