Napoli manager Rafael Benitez reportedly made a deadline-day enquiry for Sunderland midfielder Lee Cattermole.
The 25-year-old was believed to be the subject of a bid from Stoke City which was accepted, but he made the decision to stay at the Stadium of Light.
However, The Mirror claims that Italian club Napoli are also among his admirers, with Benitez reigniting his interest in a player that he reportedly tried to sign during his tenure at Liverpool.
The Spaniard was desperate to add a holding midfielder to his squad and, having seen several offers for Tottenham Hotspur's French international Etienne Capoue rejected, he turned his attention to Cattermole.
However, his attempts to lure the former Wigan Athletic and Middlesbrough star to Serie A in the final hours of the January transfer window were unsuccessful, with Cattermole remaining on Wearside.
