Swindon Town fall to a 4-2 defeat against Brighton & Hove Albion in round two of the League Cup at the City Ground.

Brighton & Hove Albion have held on to see off Swindon Town 4-2 after extra time in the second round of the League Cup at the County Ground.

The Seagulls got off to a strong start, and they edged ahead on 10 minutes courtesy of a volley from Rohan Ince which flew past Wes Foderingham.

Minutes later Brad Smith was handed the opportunity to level up from close range, but he was unable to find the target with his volley.

Swindon upped the pressure in search of a goal before the interval, and after a spell of sustained pressure, Jake Forster-Caskey was forced into a goalline clearance to retain the Seagulls' lead.

One minute after the restart Swindon did find a way through, however, with Louis Thompson finding the bottom corner of the net with his instinctive finish.

Lewis Dunk very nearly regained Brighton's lead just short of the hour, only for his header to be tipped onto the bar by Foderingham.

Both sides went in search of victory, but neither could find a way through and the game required an additional 30 minutes of extra time.

The Championship outfit showed their quality, regaining their advantage on 96 minutes through Adrian Colunga's close-range finish.

Four minutes later Forster-Caskey converted from the spot to put Brighton in command after Colunga was sent sprawling inside the box by Jordan Turnbull.

Yaser Kasim set up a tense finale when he skipped through the Albion box and fired past Casper Ankergren, but Nathan Thompson was shown his marching orders in the dying seconds for bringing down Forster-Caskey in the box, with the midfielder brushing himself down to add his second from the spot.
