Villarreal's winless run in La Liga stretched to six games as they were held to a goalless draw by lowly Cordoba this evening.
The hosts almost opened the scoring inside the fifth minute, but Joel Campbell saw his strike come crashing back off the crossbar.
Midway through the opening half Villarreal hit the woodwork for the second time, as Gerard Moreno fired a strike from the edge of the box onto the bar.
Cordoba saw little of the ball, but they threatened with a chance of their own minutes later, when Bebe drilled in a shot that was pushed behind by Sergio Asenjo.
The teams headed into the break on level terms, but five minutes into the second half Villarreal almost broke the deadlock, as Denis Cheryshev's header was tipped over by Juan Carlos.
Despite the home side's increasing pressure, it was Cordoba who should have taken the lead just past the hour mark when Edimar picked out Florin Andone at the back post, but the Romanian directed his header wide.
Down the other end of the pitch Campbell forced Carlos to tip his stinging effort over, before Cheryshev saw his strike deflect inches wide of the post.
As the game entered the final five minutes, Campbell saw another attempt beaten away by Carlos, before the keeper produced a save from Luciano Vietto's header.
In the last minute Campbell was denied yet again by Carlos, who pushed his drive from outside the box wide of the post and it proved to be Villarreal's final chance, as their poor run of form continued.
