Sports Mole previews Huddersfield's trip to Vicarage Road to face Watford on the final day of the Championship season.

Two sides struggling for form will meet at Vicarage Road on Saturday as Watford host Huddersfield Town on the final day of the Championship season.

The hosts appeared to be easing to a top-half finish just a fortnight ago, but they have since been overtaken by Middlesbrough in 12th following a run of three straight defeats.

Losing to Queens Park Rangers and Derby County may not have been entirely unexpected, but a 3-1 defeat at the hands of Charlton Athletic will not have pleased Giuseppe Sannino.

It is the sort of form that suggests Watford already have their eyes on the summer holiday, but Sannino will be keen to give the home fans something to cheer about on the final day to raise optimism for an expected playoff push next season.

The prospect of a top-half finish is still very much alive too, with Watford needing to better Middlesbrough's result against Yeovil Town to move back into 12th. Defeat, on the other hand, could see them slide down to 14th depending on how Bolton Wanderers fare against Birmingham City.

The Hornets have been very impressive at home recently and are currently on a 10-match unbeaten streak in front of their own fans. Only Blackburn Rovers and Burnley have avoided defeat in that time, while Watford have scored 23 goals and kept seven clean sheets.

Sannino will have Marco Cassetti to call upon once again after suspension, but Albert Riera is still banned and Lewis McGugan is doubtful.

Like Watford, Huddersfield are also suffering some poor end-of-season form, although their run stretches back almost two months with just one win from their last 12 outings.

Fortunately for Mark Robins's side, their results earlier in the season gave them a comfortable cushion over the teams below them and kept them out of the relegation battle that has ensnared Yorkshire rivals Barnsley and Doncaster Rovers, among others.

Town are likely to be glad to see the season end given their form, but they could still finish the campaign as low as 18th place should they lose and Charlton Athletic beat Blackpool.

Only four teams have amassed fewer points on their travels than Huddersfield this season, while they have managed just two wins in their last 13 away games.

Injuries have not helped their cause in the second half of the season, and they will once again be without top scorer James Vaughan on Saturday.
