Six-time DFB-Pokal winners Werder Bremen have exited the competition at the last-16 stage by going down 3-1 at third-tier outfit Arminia Bielefeld.
The higher-ranked visitors, currently mid-table in the Bundesliga, controlled most of the early play, but struggled to carve out many clear-cut openings.
Bielefeld, who lead the German third tier, then took the lead shortly after the half-hour mark when Manuel Junglas capitalised on a Sebastian Prodl error and tucked home.
The hosts' lead was doubled 12 minutes into the second half through Sebastian Schuppan, who found the net from close range after a corner from Florian Dick.
Bremen halved the gap in the 76th minute when Clemens Fritz angled a shot from just outside the area into the far corner.
Werder pushed for an equaliser, but it left them exposed at the back and Bielefeld punished them with a third goal and second on the night for Junglas six minutes from time.
Fritz's night got worse too as he was sent off for a second yellow card late on.
