Franco Di Santo scored a late penalty as Werder Bremen claimed a 1-0 win over 10-man Hamburger SV to heap more misery on the Bundesliga's bottom club.
In a first half of few chances, Davie Selke came closest for the hosts when he met a cross from Di Santo, only to turn the ball over the bar.
With eight minutes of the game left to play, Bremen were awarded a penalty when Valon Behrami dragged down Zlatko Junuzovic inside the box.
The Swiss midfielder was deemed to have been the last man by the referee and was shown a straight red card.
Di Santo stepped up to take the spot kick and made no mistake with a composed finish into the corner that sealed the points for his side.
