Steve Clarke eager to end losing run

Steve Clarke says that a fourth-straight Premier League defeat for West Bromwich Albion against Cardiff City this afternoon would reflect badly on his team.

West Bromwich Albion boss Steve Clarke has said that he is desperate to avoid a fourth defeat in a row when his team take on Cardiff City this afternoon.

The Baggies' recent form has seen them slip to 15th in the Premier League, and the Scot has been putting his players through their paces in training to get their season back on track.

"All I would like to do is get back on an even keel," the 50-year-old told reporters. "We have worked hard in training this week. Hopefully the performance at the weekend is good enough to get us three points.

"It will look bad if we lose four games in a row, of course it will. But that is where we are, that is the situation I am in.

"There is nothing I can do about it except try to make sure the team is ready to win the game."

Today's match could see Peter Odemwingie line up for the Bluebirds against his former team after a long-drawn and acrimonious exit from The Hawthorns in the summer.

When asked about the possibility of the Nigerian coming back to haunt West Brom, Clarke replied: "It is possible, it can happen. He is a goalscorer, that is his position.

"So, if he is selected to play for Cardiff we will have to deal with him, the same as we will have to for anyone else they select.

"Former players come back, they play against you. That's what happens. People move on in football. Peter has moved on from here and so have we."

Cardiff are one point behind the Midlands outfit.
