West Bromwich Albion defender Jonas Olsson has insisted that Aston Villa's Chris Herd deserved to be sent off for a challenge that he committed on the Swedish defender this afternoon.
Herd and Olsson tangled inside the penalty area, with the former appearing to stamp on Olsson as he returned to his feet.
The referee's assistant spotted the incident and Herd was instantly dismissed, a decision which Villa boss has since described as "harsh".
However, Olsson believes that the verdict was correct.
"We got tangled up and I fell down," Olsson told Sky Sports News. "The Villa player kicked back and hit me.
"I think he maybe feels it is a bit harsh but I think he'll agree it was a foul. Credit to the linesman who saw the incident.
"Last week I think I should have had a penalty against Wolves. I didn't get it but I guess these things even themselves out over the season."
Olsson's West Brom won the encounter at Villa Park 2-1.
