Jake Livermore: 'West Bromwich Albion absence blown out of proportion'

West Bromwich Albion midfielder Jake Livermore downplays his recent layoff with mental exhaustion ahead of England's final World Cup qualifiers.

West Bromwich Albion midfielder Jake Livermore has downplayed his recent layoff with mental fatigue.

The England international missed September's Premier League meeting with West Ham United and the EFL Cup defeat to Manchester City, with manager Tony Pulis describing the player's condition as "a little bit jaded".

Livermore, who made the England squad for the Three Lions remaining World Cup qualifiers despite the layoff, has now insisted that the issue is behind him.

"I think it was all blown out of proportion," talkSPORT quotes him as saying.

"The club and the England staff and myself are all on the same page. It was just an opportunity that we haven't had previously to rest for a few days, no more than that. It was good management by Tony Pulis from my point of view.

"We had a conversation and looked over stats, and perhaps that little bit of spark had gone from performances. I had a few days' break, which I didn't get in the summer, and I feel great now."

England need just two points from the final two World Cup qualifiers against Slovenia and Lithuania to guarantee their place in the finals.
