West Ham United won their first home Premier League match of the season by beating Newcastle United 2-0 this evening.

Dimitri Payet gave the Hammers the lead in the ninth minute when he curled an effort from the edge of the box into the top corner.

The Frenchman doubled their tally three minutes into the second half with a close-range finish, after a shot from Victor Moses had crashed against the bar.

Darren Randolph: Solid performance from the keeper, who was not forced into many saves, but had to be alert to keep out strikes from Janmaat and De Jong. (7/10)

Defence

James Tomkins: Reliable performance from the defender who never put a foot wrong all evening and kept Cisse quiet. (7/10)

Winston Reid: Was rarely troubled by the Newcastle attack and dealt well with everything that came his way. (6/10)

Angelo Ogbonna: Had a decent game for the Hammers before he had to be replaced by Jenkinson after picking up an injury just before the break. (6/10)

Aaron Cresswell: Solid down the left flank all evening and was rarely troubled in behind, but did not provide his usual threat going forward. (6/10)

Midfield

Cheikhou Kouyate: Tireless performance from the Senegal international who made a number of vital tackles and never shied away from any challenges. (7/10)

Mark Noble: Set up the opening goal for Payet and was busy in the midfield throughout on his first official game as West Ham captain. (7/10)

Manuel Lanzini: Struggled to make an impact following his goal at Anfield last time out and was replaced early in the second half by Obiang. (6/10)

Attack

Victor Moses: Lively performance from the on-loan Chelsea winger. His powerful run led to West Ham's second goal of the match, while he always looked a threat on the break. (8/10)

Dimitri Payet: Fine display from the Frenchman who grabbed both goals for the Hammers. He opened the scoring with a strike into the top corner, before slotting in the second from close range. (8/10)

Diafra Sakho: Put in a lot of effort and worked hard at closing the Newcastle defence down, but made little impact on the match. (6/10)

Substitutes

Carl Jenkinson: Replaced the injured Ogbonna and slotted in with ease at right-back. (6/10)

Pedro Obiang: Brought on to shore up the midfield and helped his team to see out the match. (6/10)

Andy Carroll: Only played for the final two minutes, but was given a warm welcome on his latest return from injury. (6/10)

Tim Krul: Could not have done much to keep out Payet's opening strike, while his defence left him horribly exposed for the second of the night. (5/10)

Daryl Janmaat: Newcastle's best player of the match. He constantly got forward to help support his teammates down the right and had his side's two best chances with efforts that were stopped by Randolph. (7/10)

Fabricio Coloccini: Made some timely interceptions and used the ball well despite his team's poor display at the back. (6/10)

Chancel Mbemba: Struggled to deal with the pace of the Newcastle attack and was caught out badly for both of the goals. (5/10)

Massadio Haidara: Saw plenty of the ball in the opposition half, but could not deliver any telling crosses and was beaten for pace by Moses for the second goal of the evening. (5/10)

Midfield

Jack Colback: Battling display from the midfielder, who was booked in the first half for a tough challenge on Kouyate. (6/10)

Moussa Sissoko: Showed plenty of intent, but was unable to seriously trouble the West Ham backline. (6/10)

Vurnon Anita: Poor showing from the Dutchman, who made little impact on the match and failed to contain the runs of Payet. (5/10)

Florian Thauvin: The Frenchman endured a difficult evening and made little impact before he was replaced by Perez on the hour mark. (5/10)

Georginio Wijnaldum: Another Newcastle player who failed to establish themselves on the game and did not see enough of the ball. (6/10)

Papiss Cisse: Had little support from his teammates throughout the match and was unable to test the keeper. (5/10)
