David Moyes: 'West Ham United cannot afford to lose Javier Hernandez'

David Moyes intends to keep striker Javier Hernandez at West Ham United this month following the striker's key goal against Bournemouth on Saturday afternoon.

David Moyes has rubbished suggestions that Javier Hernandez has been put up for sale, insisting that his West Ham United squad is too thin to consider offloading the striker.

The Mexico international, who only joined the Hammers from Bayer Leverkusen in the summer, is said to have attracted interest from Major League Soccer side Los Angeles FC.

Hernandez ended a nine-game goal drought with a vital leveller against Bournemouth on Saturday afternoon, however, and Moyes claims that he will keep the ex-Manchester United poacher at the London Stadium in the hope of seeing him score similar goals.

"Well, Chicharito, there has been speculation about him but there has been speculation about Andy Carroll, Diafra Sakho - there's been speculation about every man and their dog here," he told reporters after the 1-1 draw.

"As far as I am concerned you can look at my bench today and say 'if there's one club that doesn't need to lose any players it is West Ham', because of the numbers - we're so short.

"Actually, if there's one place we are actually quite big is the centre-forwards, we have four or five but suddenly we've got injuries to some of them and because of that then we're really short.

"We needed Chicharito, I think the sort of goal he got today might be typical, so we need to try and get a lot more balls in the box and hopefully he's going to score a lot more for us in the coming weeks and months."

Hernandez's goal was his 42nd in the Premier League, with each of those coming from inside the box.
